25th Anniversary Logo Design Competition

  • Celebrating 25 years of excellence in marine science education and coastal stewardship.
  • Calling all artists and ocean enthusiasts!
  • Submit a design in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Seymour Center.

THEME

Your design should celebrate the Seymour Center and its 25th anniversary. Be creative, let your imagination soar.

 

Some words of inspiration:

The Seymour Center’s mission statement – the Seymour Marine Discovery Center is dedicated to educating people about the role scientific research plays in the understanding and conservation of the world’s oceans.

In recent years, the Seymour Center has placed increasing emphasis on building resilience to climate change issues that affect our local ocean and coastal community. A winning design will honor both the Seymour Center’s history and its current endeavors.

 

Your design might include phrases like “Seymour Marine Discovery Center”, “25th Anniversary”, etc. 

 

PRIZES

Adults Category (18 years and up)

1st Place: A one-year membership to the Seymour Center (and over 1,000 other institutions via the NARM program), also glory and acclaim

2nd Place: Six 1-day passes to the Seymour Center

 

Kids Category (under 18 years old)

1st Place: Plush from the gift shop and a tote bag featuring your logo!

Winning designs will be featured on commemorative merchandise (tote bags, t-shirts, coffee mugs, etc.), as well as in the Seymour Center’s digital content and advertising.

Competition Launch: Thursday, October 31, 2024

Submission Deadline: Monday, December 2nd, 2024 at 11:59 PM PST

GUIDELINES
  • Submission Deadline: Monday, December 2nd, 2024 at 11:59 PM PST
  • Kids Category (participants younger than 18 years old)
  • Adults Category (18 years and up)
  • Do not use AI to generate artwork. This project is meant as a celebration of creativity in our local community.

 

SIZE, RESOLUTION, PREFERRED FORMAT

  • High-quality images are preferred. You may be contacted if your submission is under consideration but requires better resolution.
  • A winning design will complement the Seymour Center’s existing style. Take a look at our website and social media (or better yet, pay us a visit!) to get a sense for how your design will enhance what we do.
  • Winning designs will be featured on merchandise as well as in digital content (social media posts, email signatures, etc.), so keep this in mind as you determine the size/proportions of your design.
  • For the purposes of creating merchandise, digital submissions are preferred in AI or EPS vector formats, if that technology is familiar to you.

JUDGES

Our distinguished panel of judges includes Seymour Center career staff, student staff, swell sharks, and hermit crabs. We will evaluate designs based on creativity, relevance to the Seymour Center, usability for both physical and digital content, and originality.

HOW TO SUBMIT

Hand Submission: Place your design in a sealed envelope and deliver it to the front desk of the Seymour Center. Include your full name, age, and contact information (phone # and email) with your submission. 

 

Digital Submission: Email your submission to ercasare@ucsc.edu. Please be sure to include your full name, age, and contact information (phone # and email) in the email.

By submitting a design, you agree to allow the Seymour Center to use your design for all purposes, including but not limited to: digital content, printed material, and merchandise.

EXHIBITION

Entries will be on display in the Seymour Center Exhibit Hall for the entire community to appreciate.
