Dietary Specialization and Predatory Behaviors of Moray Eels: Making a Living in Temperate and Tropical Ecosystems
This is an online webinar presented by:
Rita Mehta, Ph.D.
Professor, Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, UC Santa Cruz
Linking morphology (what an animal looks like), function, and behavior allows us to understand how organisms make their living in their natural environment. Animals with extreme body shapes often push the limits in feeding. By applying a comparative and integrative approach, involving data collection in the field and in the lab, Rita and her team have been able to study the functional morphology of feeding. Over the last several years, she has studied the morphological diversity of moray eels. Morays are fascinating because they reach large lengths and have a secretive, cryptic lifestyle.
Join Rita to learn what she has discovered about moray eels, their dietary habits, and their interesting prey capture and manipulation behaviors.
